The Movement Doc of Texas

ARPwave Neuromuscular Therapy in New Braunfels, TX

A direct current device used to find where the brain-to-muscle connection has gone quiet, and to retrain it — most often in the area that keeps failing despite everything else you have tried.

  • One-on-one care
  • Inside a full rehab plan
  • Uncommon in this area

After an injury, muscles around the painful area often stop contributing properly — and they frequently stay that way after the tissue has healed and the pain has gone. You compensate, something else takes the load, and the problem relocates rather than resolves. ARPwave is one way of addressing that directly.

What It Is

Direct current, applied while you move.

ARPwave uses a direct current waveform rather than the alternating current in a standard TENS or e-stim unit. In practice that means it is used actively: you move, contract, and work through range while the current is applied, instead of lying still with pads on for twenty minutes.

It is used both to locate the problem and to treat it. Areas that respond very differently from their opposite side point to where the neuromuscular connection is not working properly — which is often not where you feel the pain.

It is not a standalone cure and we do not present it as one. It is a tool for a specific problem: muscles that will not switch on properly, and compensation patterns that keep reasserting themselves.

Where it earns its place

  • Persistent inhibition after an injury has healed
  • Quadriceps that will not activate post-surgery
  • Pain that keeps moving to a neighbouring area
  • Plateaued rehab that stalled without explanation
  • Compensation patterns that return under fatigue

What to Expect

It feels unlike other electrical stimulation

It is intense

The sensation is strong and people usually remember their first session. Intensity is controlled by you and your therapist together, and it is turned down whenever it needs to be.

You are working

You move through range and contract against resistance during treatment. This is an active session, not a passive modality you rest through.

It is part of a plan

Sessions sit inside your treatment plan alongside hands-on work and loading. We do not sell ARPwave packages separate from rehabilitation.

Honest Framing

What the evidence does and does not say.

Electrical stimulation for muscle activation and post-operative quadriceps inhibition has a reasonable evidence base. ARPwave specifically — as a proprietary device and protocol — has far less published research behind it than the marketing around it suggests, and you should treat dramatic claims about it with scepticism regardless of who is making them.

We use it because it is useful for a narrow problem, in patients where activation is genuinely the limiter, alongside treatment that has strong evidence behind it. If it is not helping you within a reasonable number of sessions, we stop and tell you, rather than selling you more of it.

What it costs

ARPwave is delivered within treatment sessions as clinically appropriate rather than sold as a separate package.

A 90-minute initial evaluation is $185. Packages and insurance details are on the pricing page.

FAQs

Common questions

How is this different from TENS or normal e-stim?

TENS units use alternating current and are generally used passively for pain relief. ARPwave uses direct current and is applied while you move and contract. The sensation and the purpose are both different — this is about muscle activation, not masking pain.

Does it hurt?

It is intense rather than painful, and the intensity is adjustable throughout. Most people find the first minute surprising and settle into it. Tell your therapist if it is too much; there is nothing to be gained by enduring more than you can work through.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies, and anyone quoting you a fixed number before assessing you is guessing. We will give you an honest expectation at your evaluation and revisit it as we go. If it is not producing change, we say so.

Is it safe for everyone?

No. Pacemakers and other implanted electrical devices, pregnancy, certain cardiac conditions, and some neurological conditions are contraindications. That screening happens before anything is applied.

Can I book ARPwave on its own?

Not as a first visit. It needs an assessment behind it to be worth anything — knowing which area is inhibited is the entire point. Start with an evaluation.

Rehab stalled without a clear reason?

That is the situation this is for. Start with a free 15-minute consultation, or book an evaluation.
